4.89 Million by Six O'Clock

The 18:00 turnout on election day, counted in people, and what Yitzchak did toward evening.

At 16:00 it was 4,085,075. At 18:00 the Central Elections Committee put out its next number: 66.7 percent of eligible voters had voted. On the roll of 7,331,981, that comes to about 4,890,431 people. At the same hour in the 2022 election it was 57.7 percent.

The day so far, as the committee reported it: 16.68 percent at 10:00, 31.5 percent at 12:00, 44.9 percent at 14:00, 55.7 percent at 16:00 and 66.7 percent at 18:00.

Once more, in people. The committee lists 7,331,981 eligible voters for this election.

These are counts of who showed up. They say nothing about whom anyone chose.

This morning was Avraham rising early, and this afternoon was Avraham in the heat of the day. Next week’s parsha gives us his son toward evening. “Yitzchak went out to speak in the field toward evening” (Bereishit 24:63). The Gemara learns from that verse that Yitzchak established the afternoon prayer, Mincha (Berachot 26b).

The day’s last hours got a prayer of their own.

About 4.89 million people have voted. If you’re one of the roughly 2.44 million who haven’t yet, the evening is still yours.

Voting ends at 22:00. Whoever is in line at the ballot box by 22:00 votes. Bring your ID.

I encourage all eligible voters to vote.
