The 16:00 turnout on election day, counted in people, and what Avraham did in the heat of the day.

Two hours ago it was 3,290,480. At 16:00 the Central Elections Committee put out its next number: 55.7 percent of eligible voters had voted, 4,085,075 people. At the same hour in the 2022 election it was 47.5 percent.

Here's the day so far, as the committee reported it: 16.68 percent at 10:00, 31.5 percent at 12:00, 44.9 percent at 14:00 and 55.7 percent at 16:00. The next update is due at 18:00.

Again, people, not percentages. The math, step by step.

The committee lists 7,331,981 eligible voters for this election.

These are counts of who showed up. They say nothing about whom anyone chose.

At 14:00 I wrote about Avraham rising early. But this week's parsha also has Avraham in the afternoon. "He was sitting at the entrance of the tent in the heat of the day" (Bereishit 18:1). Rashi explains that G-d brought the sun out of its sheath so Avraham wouldn't be troubled with guests, three days after his bris. And because He saw that Avraham was pained that no guests were coming, He sent the angels in the form of men (Rashi on Bereishit 18:1, from Bava Metzia 86b).

So the man with every reason to stay inside sat at the door and watched the road. When three travelers came, "he ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them" (18:2). Then he hurried, and ran again (18:6–7).

Early is one way to do a mitzvah. The heat of the day is another. 4,085,075 people have voted. If you're one of the 3,246,906 who haven't yet, you haven't missed anything. The door is still open.

Voting ends at 22:00. Whoever is in line at the ballot box by 22:00 votes. Bring your ID.

I encourage all eligible voters to vote.
